The Gold Tip Airstrike is built for bowhunters who want a lightweight 5mm-class carbon shaft with premium tolerances and plenty of flexibility in the finished arrow build. With a .204" internal diameter, ±.001" straightness, high-modulus carbon construction, and relatively low GPI, the Airstrike gives you room to maintain speed and trajectory while deciding how much weight you want to add through the front-end component system.

This Extreme Outfitters product is the bare-shaft version, giving you complete control over vane selection, fletching configuration, finished arrow length, and the rest of your custom build.

Key Features

.204" Small-Diameter Carbon Shaft

The Airstrike uses a .204" internal diameter, placing it in the 5mm-class category. The smaller shaft profile reduces the amount of arrow exposed to crosswind compared with larger-diameter hunting arrows while maintaining a versatile component system.

±.001" Straightness

The Gold Tip Airstrike carries a ±.001" straightness specification, putting it in Gold Tip’s premium hunting-arrow category for shooters who want tighter shaft tolerances.

±0.5-Grain Weight Tolerance

Gold Tip specifies the Airstrike at ±0.5 grain for weight tolerance, helping reduce shaft-to-shaft weight variation across a matched set.

High-Modulus Smart Carbon Construction

The Airstrike uses Gold Tip’s high-modulus Smart Carbon construction without fillers. The goal is to keep shaft weight low while maintaining the durability and straightness retention expected from a premium hunting shaft.

Low GPI for Build Flexibility

The relatively low GPI is one of the biggest advantages of the Airstrike. Starting with less shaft weight gives you more room to decide where the finished arrow’s mass comes from.

You can keep the component package lighter when speed and trajectory are priorities, or add more front-end weight when building toward a heavier hunting arrow or higher FOC target.

Dyna-Tek® Slick Shield Coating

Gold Tip applies its Dyna-Tek Slick Shield coating to the Airstrike. The slick exterior is designed to reduce surface friction and can also make arrows easier to remove from dense foam targets.

Ballistic Collar Included

The Airstrike includes a size-specific Ballistic Collar that fits over the front of the carbon shaft. The collar helps reinforce the front end around the insert and broadhead connection.

Nock Collar Included

Gold Tip also includes a rear nock collar, providing additional protection around the back of the shaft where the nock interfaces with the carbon.

.204 Aluminum Insert Included

The Airstrike includes a spine-specific .204 aluminum insert with standard 8-32 threads, allowing you to use conventional field points and hunting broadheads.

Heavier Stainless Steel Insert Available

If you want substantially more front-end weight, Extreme Outfitters also carries the Gold Tip Airstrike Stainless Steel Insert.

The stainless inserts weigh approximately 69 to 75 grains depending on spine, giving you a significantly heavier front-end option than the included aluminum insert.

Increasing insert weight also increases finished arrow weight and dynamically weakens the shaft. Spine, arrow length, draw weight, and broadhead weight should all be considered before making a major component-weight change.

.204 Accu-Tough Nock Included

Gold Tip includes its .204 Accu-Tough nock with the Airstrike, completing the factory component system at the rear of the shaft.

Who It's Built For

The Gold Tip Airstrike makes the most sense for bowhunters who want a lightweight 5mm-class shaft and prefer having room to control the finished arrow through component selection.

It is especially useful for shooters who prioritize arrow speed, flatter trajectory, and tighter pin gaps but still want the ability to add meaningful front-end weight for a hunting setup.

That can make the Airstrike particularly useful for shorter draw lengths or lower draw weights. Starting with a heavy shaft can make it difficult for those shooters to maintain practical speed once inserts, broadheads, vanes, and other components are added.

Higher-poundage and longer-draw shooters can use the same low-GPI platform differently — maintaining high arrow speed while adding heavier components when the finished build calls for more overall mass or front-end weight.

The Airstrike is also a strong option for archers who want a premium ±.001" shaft but do not want to move into a 4mm micro-diameter component system.

Our Take on the Gold Tip Airstrike

The biggest reason we look at the Airstrike is the combination of low shaft weight and a premium .204" platform.

It gives us room to build the finished arrow around the shooter instead of having most of the arrow weight predetermined by the shaft itself.

A 300 spine at 8.5 GPI or a 340 at 7.8 GPI leaves a lot of room to work with. If speed and trajectory are the goal, we can stay relatively light through the front-end components. If we want more mass toward the front, the shaft is light enough that we can add component weight without immediately creating an excessively heavy finished arrow.

That is where the optional Airstrike Stainless Steel Insert becomes useful. It gives us another direction to take the exact same shaft when a customer wants considerably more front-end weight.

We would not automatically recommend the heavier insert, though. More FOC or more arrow weight is not automatically better. Once front-end weight increases, dynamic spine changes as well, so the entire build needs to be considered together.

The Ballistic Collar and Nock Collar are also features we like seeing on a lightweight shaft. When you are intentionally removing shaft mass to keep GPI low, protecting the ends of the carbon becomes particularly important.

Compared with a conventional arrow like the Gold Tip Hunter XT, the Airstrike gives you a smaller .204" diameter, considerably tighter shaft tolerances, lower GPI in comparable spines, and a more sophisticated component system. The tradeoff is price and complexity.

That is why we look at the Airstrike for someone who specifically wants a premium lightweight hunting build rather than simply telling every bowhunter they need one.

Extreme Outfitters sells these shafts individually, and free cut and glue is available with your arrow purchase. Because this is the bare-shaft version, you also have complete control over vane selection and fletching configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Gold Tip Airstrike a bare shaft?

Yes. This Extreme Outfitters product is the bare-shaft / unfletched version, allowing you to choose your own vane style, colors, and fletching configuration.

What diameter is the Gold Tip Airstrike?

The Airstrike uses a .204" internal diameter, commonly considered a 5mm-class hunting shaft.

What is the straightness tolerance?

The Gold Tip Airstrike carries a ±.001" straightness specification.

What is the weight tolerance?

Gold Tip specifies the Airstrike at ±0.5 grain for shaft weight tolerance.

What spine sizes does Extreme Outfitters currently offer?

Extreme Outfitters currently offers the Airstrike bare shaft in 250, 300, and 340 spine.

What components come with the Airstrike?

Gold Tip includes a spine-specific .204 aluminum insert, Ballistic Collar, Nock Collar, and .204 Accu-Tough nock.

Can I use a heavier insert with the Gold Tip Airstrike?

Yes. Extreme Outfitters carries the Gold Tip Airstrike Stainless Steel Insert. Depending on spine, the stainless version weighs approximately 69 to 75 grains.

Adding that much front-end weight can significantly change finished arrow weight, FOC, and dynamic spine, so make sure it fits the complete arrow and bow setup.

Does the Airstrike use standard broadheads?

Yes. The Airstrike insert system uses standard 8-32 threads, allowing you to use conventional hunting broadheads and field points.

Is the Airstrike good for hunting?

Yes. The Airstrike is designed as a premium lightweight hunting shaft. Its low GPI, .204" diameter, tight tolerances, and flexible component system make it especially useful when speed, trajectory, and finished-arrow flexibility are priorities.

Is the Airstrike only for lightweight arrow builds?

No. The low shaft weight gives you flexibility in both directions. You can keep the complete arrow relatively light for speed or use heavier components to build more finished mass into the front of the arrow.

What is the difference between the Gold Tip Airstrike and Hunter XT?

The Airstrike is a premium .204" small-diameter shaft with ±.001" straightness and ±0.5-grain weight tolerance. The Hunter XT uses a larger .246" platform with ±.003" straightness and a simpler component system.

The Hunter XT is an excellent value-oriented hunting arrow. The Airstrike makes more sense when smaller diameter, lower GPI, tighter tolerances, and additional build flexibility are higher priorities.

Can Extreme Outfitters cut and build Airstrike arrows?

Yes. Free cut and glue is available with your arrow purchase. If you need help choosing spine, finished length, insert weight, or your fletching setup, our archery team can help you plan the complete arrow.

Want More Front-End Weight?

If the included aluminum component is lighter than what you want for your finished build, the Gold Tip Airstrike Stainless Steel Insert provides a considerably heavier front-end option while staying within the Airstrike component system.

Choose component weight around the complete arrow rather than simply chasing more FOC. Draw weight, draw length, arrow length, spine, broadhead weight, and desired finished-arrow weight all need to work together.
