The Victory VAP TKO Elite is a strong option for bowhunters who want a micro-diameter hunting arrow and place a high priority on wind performance, durability, and longer-range efficiency.
It makes particular sense for western hunters, Total Archery Challenge shooters, and anyone who regularly shoots at extended distance. The .166" shaft presents very little surface area to crosswind, and that benefit becomes increasingly relevant as distance increases.
The VAP TKO also carries more shaft weight than extremely lightweight micro-diameter arrows. That makes it a better fit for shooters who want the aerodynamic benefits of a 4mm-class shaft without necessarily building the lightest possible arrow.
For whitetail and general big-game hunting, it can be an excellent platform as well. The micro-diameter shaft, substantial 50-grain front component, and available heavier Taper Lock options give you plenty of room to build around a specific finished-arrow goal.
The biggest consideration with any .166" arrow is the component system. We pay close attention to insert weight, broadhead weight, spine, and finished arrow length because changes at the front of a micro-diameter shaft can have a meaningful effect on the complete build.

Our Take on the Victory VAP TKO Elite
The VAP TKO is the Victory shaft we look at when someone specifically wants to move into a true micro-diameter hunting arrow but still wants a substantial hunting platform.
The biggest reason to choose a .166" arrow is not simply because smaller automatically means better. The real advantage is reducing how much shaft surface area the wind has to work against. That matters more and more as distance increases.
For western hunting, long-range 3D, or TAC-style shooting, that can be a legitimate advantage. You are dealing with a very small shaft profile without having to start with an extremely lightweight arrow.
That last point is important. The VAP TKO is different from a speed-first micro-diameter arrow. It carries enough GPI to build a substantial hunting setup, and Victory pairs it with a 50-grain Taper Lock component that gives us a solid front-end system right out of the box.
We also like the Taper Lock concept for a 4mm shaft. Micro-diameter arrows put a lot of importance on the front component because that component transitions the small carbon shaft into a standard broadhead. Having a sleeved component that reinforces the front of the carbon is something we value in a hunting build.
As with every arrow, we do not automatically recommend moving to the heaviest available insert. The 75- and 95-grain options give us more room to manipulate finished weight and FOC, but they also add total mass and dynamically weaken the shaft. The component needs to match the shooter rather than simply chase the highest FOC number possible.
The other question is whether you need the Elite grade. The Elite and Gamer are the same basic VAP TKO platform. The primary difference is straightness sorting: ±.001" for Elite versus ±.003" for Gamer.
If you want Victory’s tightest VAP TKO shaft sorting, the Elite is the right choice. If you want the same micro-diameter platform and component system but would rather save some money, the Gamer is an excellent alternative.
