The Easton Sonic 6.0 Match Grade is built for bowhunters who want a lighter, reduced-diameter carbon shaft with enough flexibility to build around speed, finished arrow weight, and front-end component selection. Made in the USA using Easton’s seamless Acu-Carbon construction, the Sonic 6.0 combines relatively low GPI with Match Grade ±.001" straightness for hunting and 3D setups where trajectory and build flexibility matter.

The biggest advantage of the Sonic 6.0 is that it gives you room to decide where your finished-arrow weight comes from. Keep the component package lighter for more speed and a flatter trajectory, or add front-end weight to build a heavier hunting arrow without starting with an excessively heavy shaft.

Key Features

6MM Reduced-Diameter Acu-Carbon Construction

The Sonic 6.0 uses Easton’s 100% carbon Acu-Carbon construction in a reduced-diameter 6mm shaft. The smaller profile reduces exposed surface area compared with larger-diameter hunting arrows while maintaining a straightforward component system.

Match Grade ±.001" Straightness

The Match Grade Sonic 6.0 carries a ±.001" straightness specification for archers and bowhunters who want tighter shaft consistency when building a hunting or 3D arrow.

Lower GPI for More Build Flexibility

One of the biggest strengths of the Sonic 6.0 is its relatively low grains-per-inch weight. That gives you more room to manipulate insert weight, broadhead weight, finished arrow mass, and FOC without immediately ending up with an excessively heavy arrow.

23-Grain HP Inserts Included

The current Easton Sonic 6.0 Match Grade includes 23-grain HP inserts with standard 8-32 threads. The insert system gives you a straightforward starting point for most hunting builds while maintaining compatibility with conventional field points and broadheads.

Standard 8-32 Broadhead Compatibility

The Sonic 6.0 accepts standard-thread 8-32 broadheads and field points, making it easy to build around commonly available hunting components.

Pre-Installed 6MM Nocks

Easton installs 6mm nocks at the factory, giving you a complete rear component system ready for the rest of your custom build.

Heavier Brass Insert Option Available

If you want additional front-end weight, Extreme Outfitters carries Easton 6mm Brass Inserts. These break-off inserts can be configured at 50 or 75 grains, giving you significantly more front-end weight than the included 23-grain HP insert.

Increasing insert weight also increases finished arrow weight and dynamically weakens the shaft. Spine, finished arrow length, draw weight, and broadhead weight should all be considered before moving to a heavier insert.

Who It's Built For

The Easton Sonic 6.0 Match Grade is a strong option for bowhunters who want a lighter carbon hunting shaft and more freedom to control the finished arrow build.

It works particularly well for shooters who want to maintain useful arrow speed and trajectory while still having the option to add front-end component weight. That makes the Sonic especially versatile for hunting setups where you do not want the shaft itself to dictate most of your finished arrow weight.

The 6mm diameter also makes it a practical middle ground between larger traditional hunting shafts and Easton’s smaller 5mm and 4mm platforms. You still get a reduced-diameter arrow without moving into the more specialized component systems associated with micro-diameter shafts.

The lighter GPI can also make the Sonic 6.0 a useful option for shorter draw lengths or lower draw weights where starting with a heavier shaft can make it difficult to keep finished arrow weight and speed in a practical range.

Our Take on the Easton Sonic 6.0 Match Grade

The Sonic 6.0 is one of those arrows that makes sense when you want more freedom to build the finished arrow around the shooter instead of starting with a lot of shaft weight.

The lower GPI gives us room to decide where we want the weight. For a speed-oriented setup, we can keep the insert and broadhead package relatively light and take advantage of the Sonic’s lower shaft mass. If we want a heavier hunting build, we can move to a heavier insert and add front-end weight without automatically ending up with an excessively heavy finished arrow.

That flexibility is especially useful for shorter draw lengths and lower draw weights. With a heavier shaft, those shooters can lose speed quickly once normal hunting components are added. The Sonic gives us more room to keep the finished build balanced.

For higher draw weights or shooters who want a heavier hunting arrow, the Sonic can still work extremely well because the shaft starts light enough to let us add weight where we actually want it. The 50/75-grain Easton brass insert gives us a straightforward way to add front-end mass when the setup calls for it.

The Sonic 6.0 is also a good middle-ground option for someone who wants a reduced-diameter hunting arrow but does not necessarily need to move all the way down to a 5mm or 4mm platform.

As always, we do not recommend chasing one number. More FOC, more arrow weight, or more speed is not automatically better. Draw length, draw weight, arrow length, spine, broadhead weight, and intended hunting application all need to work together.

Extreme Outfitters sells these shafts individually, and free cut and glue is available with your arrow purchase. If you are unsure about spine, finished arrow length, or insert weight, our bow techs can help you put together the complete arrow around your setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the straightness specification of the Easton Sonic 6.0 Match Grade?

The Sonic 6.0 Match Grade carries a ±.001" straightness specification.

What spine sizes does Extreme Outfitters carry?

Extreme Outfitters currently offers the Sonic 6.0 Match Grade bare shaft in 250, 300, 340, and 400 spine.

What insert system does the Sonic 6.0 use?

The current Sonic 6.0 Match Grade includes Easton’s 23-grain 6mm HP insert with standard 8-32 threads, allowing you to use conventional field points and broadheads.

Can I add more front-end weight to the Sonic 6.0?

Yes. Extreme Outfitters carries Easton 6mm Brass Inserts that can be configured at either 50 or 75 grains if you want more front-end weight than the included 23-grain HP insert provides.

Keep in mind that adding insert weight also increases finished arrow weight and dynamically weakens the shaft, so spine needs to be considered before making a major component-weight change.

Is the Sonic 6.0 a good hunting arrow?

Yes. The Sonic 6.0 is designed as a lightweight, all-purpose hunting shaft. Its lower GPI makes it especially useful when you want flexibility in finished arrow weight, speed, and front-end component selection.

Is the Sonic 6.0 only for lightweight arrow builds?

No. The lower shaft weight actually makes the Sonic useful for both lighter and heavier builds. You can keep the component package light for speed or add heavier inserts and broadheads when you want more total arrow mass.

Who benefits most from a lower-GPI shaft?

Lower-GPI shafts can be especially useful for shorter draw lengths and lower draw weights because they provide more room to add normal hunting components without making the finished arrow excessively heavy. They can also work well for higher-poundage shooters who want to place more of the arrow’s weight in the component system rather than the shaft itself.

What is the difference between a 6mm arrow and a 5mm arrow?

A 5mm arrow has a smaller outside diameter, which reduces shaft surface area further, while a 6mm arrow generally uses a somewhat simpler and more conventional component system. The better option depends on your finished-arrow goals, shooting distance, component preferences, and hunting application.

Can Extreme Outfitters cut and install the inserts?

Yes. Free cut and glue is available with your arrow purchase. If you need help with spine, finished length, or insert selection, our bow techs can also help you determine the appropriate setup.

Want the Convenience of a Pre-Fletched Arrow?

If you like the Sonic 6.0 Match Grade platform but do not want to install your own vanes, the Easton Sonic 6.0 Match Grade Fletched Arrow gives you the same lightweight 6mm platform in a pre-fletched configuration.

Choose the bare shaft if you want complete control over vane model, vane color, orientation, and the rest of your fletching setup. Choose the fletched version if you want to start with the vanes already installed and focus on spine, arrow length, and front-end component selection.

The shaft is only one part of a properly matched hunting arrow. Spine, finished arrow weight, FOC, component selection, and intended shooting distance all need to work together.
