The Victory HLR Elite is a lightweight 5mm hunting shaft built for bowhunters who want speed, a small-diameter arrow, and enough component weight up front to build a serious hunting setup. The HLR combines a .204" internal diameter carbon shaft with Victory’s MaxxKe™ carbon weave technology, Elite ±.001" straightness, factory spine alignment, and an ICE Nano Ceramic coating.

What makes the HLR especially interesting is how light the shaft remains while still including a 50-grain stainless steel SHOK™ insert. That gives you a lot of flexibility to build around speed, finished arrow weight, and FOC without starting with an excessively heavy shaft.

Key Features

5MM / .204" Small-Diameter Carbon Shaft

The Victory HLR uses a .204" internal-diameter carbon shaft designed to reduce the amount of arrow exposed to crosswind while maintaining a streamlined profile for hunting applications.

Elite ±.001" Straightness

The Elite version of the HLR carries Victory’s ±.001" straightness specification for shooters who want the tightest straightness grade offered in the HLR lineup.

MaxxKe™ Carbon Weave Technology

Victory uses its MaxxKe™ carbon weave construction in the HLR to control shaft torque and help the arrow recover efficiently after launch. For the shooter, the important part is a lightweight carbon shaft designed around consistent spine and repeatable arrow flight rather than simply chasing low GPI.

Factory Spine Aligned

Every HLR is digitally spine aligned at the factory, and Victory marks the orientation of the shaft. That makes it easier for arrow builders to maintain consistent vane and nock orientation from arrow to arrow.

Weight Matched Within ±0.5 Grains Per Dozen

Victory weight matches HLR shafts within ±0.5 grains per dozen, helping reduce arrow-to-arrow weight variation when building a matched hunting or 3D set.

ICE Nano Ceramic Coating

The HLR uses Victory’s ICE Nano Ceramic coating to create an exceptionally slick exterior surface. One of the most noticeable real-world benefits is easier arrow removal from dense foam targets compared with many unfinished carbon shafts.

50-Grain Stainless Steel SHOK™ Insert Included

The HLR includes Victory’s 50-grain stainless steel SHOK™ insert. The component sleeves over the front of the shaft for added protection and accepts standard 8-32 threaded broadheads and field points.

The 50-grain starting component also gives the HLR meaningful front-end mass without requiring you to immediately purchase an aftermarket insert system.

Compatible with Victory Backweights

The SHOK™ system is compatible with Victory backweights, giving you another way to adjust front-end component weight without changing the entire insert system.

9-Grain .204 Nock Included

Victory includes a 9-grain .204 nock designed specifically around the HLR’s small-diameter shaft.

Who It's Built For

The Victory HLR Elite makes the most sense for bowhunters who want a lightweight 5mm shaft but still want a substantial stainless component system up front.

It is particularly attractive for shooters trying to maintain arrow speed and trajectory without giving up the ability to build a moderate hunting-arrow weight. Because the shaft itself is relatively light, you have more room to determine where the finished arrow’s weight comes from.

The HLR can also make a lot of sense for longer draw lengths and higher draw weights. In the stiffer spine ranges, its GPI stays especially low, helping keep finished-arrow weight under control even when a shooter needs a 200- or 250-spine shaft.

That same low-GPI construction can also work well for shorter-draw shooters who need to preserve speed while still carrying enough component weight for a practical hunting build.

The HLR is not Victory’s heaviest-duty 5mm shaft. If maximum shaft durability is the only priority, a heavier platform such as the RIP TKO may make more sense. The HLR is better viewed as a balance between speed, small diameter, component strength, and finished-arrow flexibility.

Our Take on the Victory HLR Elite

The HLR is one of the more interesting 5mm arrows we carry because Victory managed to keep the shaft weight low while giving you a stout 50-grain stainless component system right out of the box.

That combination gives us a lot of room when building arrows for customers. The shaft itself is not consuming all of the finished-arrow weight, so we can keep useful front-end mass without turning every HLR into an excessively heavy arrow.

The HLR becomes especially interesting in the stiffest spines. In our comparison with the Easton 5.0, the HLR is roughly a grain per inch lighter in the 200- and 250-spine range. For a long-draw or high-poundage shooter who needs that stiffer shaft but still wants to maintain speed and trajectory, that difference can add up over the length of the arrow.

Once you get into the 300 through 400 spine range, the HLR and Easton 5.0 become much closer in shaft weight. At that point, we think the decision is less about GPI and more about which component system and shaft construction you prefer.

The HLR gives you the 50-grain stainless SHOK™ system, factory spine indexing, and the ICE ceramic coating. The Easton 5.0 gives you Easton’s HIT-and-collar system and a different approach to component flexibility. Both are very good lightweight 5mm hunting shafts.

We also genuinely like the ICE coating. If you spend much time shooting dense 3D foam, the easier target removal is noticeable. It sounds like a small feature until you have spent an afternoon pulling dozens of arrows from hard targets.

From a durability standpoint, we do not put the HLR in exactly the same category as something like a RIP TKO. The HLR is intentionally lighter, which means there is a tradeoff. In our experience, however, it provides a strong balance between weight savings and practical hunting durability and is considerably more confidence-inspiring than some ultralight 5mm platforms.

For someone who wants a lightweight 5mm hunting arrow, values speed and trajectory, likes having a 50-grain stainless component up front, and wants factory spine alignment, the HLR Elite is one of our favorite options in that category.

Extreme Outfitters sells these shafts individually, and free cut and glue is available with your arrow purchase. That also makes it easy to test a few HLR shafts against another arrow before committing to a full dozen.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does HLR stand for?

HLR stands for Hunt Long Range. Victory designed the platform around a lightweight, small-diameter hunting shaft intended to balance speed, wind performance, component strength, and durability.

What is the straightness specification of the HLR Elite?

The Victory HLR Elite carries a ±.001" straightness specification.

What insert comes with the Victory HLR?

The current HLR includes Victory’s 50-grain stainless steel SHOK™ insert with standard 8-32 threads.

Can I change the front-end weight of the HLR?

Yes. Victory offers additional SHOK™ component options and backweights for the .204 platform. Whenever you add significant front-end weight, remember that you are also increasing finished arrow weight and dynamically weakening the shaft.

Does the Victory HLR use standard broadheads?

Yes. The SHOK™ component uses standard 8-32 threads, allowing the HLR to accept conventional field points and hunting broadheads.

What is factory spine alignment?

Victory digitally measures the shaft and identifies its spine orientation at the factory. The shaft is marked so arrow builders can keep nock and vane orientation consistent when assembling a set.

What does the ICE Nano Ceramic coating do?

The ICE coating creates a very slick exterior surface. Victory designed it to reduce friction, and one of the most noticeable practical benefits is easier arrow removal from dense foam targets.

Is the Victory HLR good for hunting?

Yes. The HLR is specifically designed as a small-diameter hunting arrow. Its low GPI, stainless front component, and broad spine range make it particularly useful when you want to balance speed with practical finished hunting-arrow weight.

Is the HLR durable?

Yes, but it is important to understand what the HLR is designed to do. It is a relatively lightweight 5mm shaft. If absolute maximum durability is your only priority, a heavier shaft such as the Victory RIP TKO may be a better fit. The HLR is designed to balance durability with lower GPI and higher arrow speed.

What is the difference between the Victory HLR and Easton 5.0?

Both are lightweight 5mm-class hunting arrows, but they use very different component systems. The HLR includes a 50-grain stainless SHOK™ insert, factory spine alignment, and Victory’s ICE ceramic coating. The Easton 5.0 Match Grade uses Easton’s HIT insert and collar system and is made in the USA.

In our testing and comparison, the HLR is noticeably lighter in the stiffest 200- and 250-spine options, while the two become very close in GPI through the more common mid-range spines. The better choice usually comes down to the shooter’s required spine, preferred component system, and finished-arrow goals.

Should I choose the HLR or RIP TKO?

Choose the HLR when lower GPI, speed, and finished-arrow flexibility are higher priorities. Choose the RIP TKO when you are willing to carry additional shaft weight in exchange for a heavier-duty hunting-arrow platform.

Can Extreme Outfitters cut and build HLR arrows?

Yes. Free cut and glue is available with your arrow purchase. If you are unsure which spine or finished arrow configuration makes sense for your bow, our archery team can help you plan the build around your draw length, draw weight, arrow length, and intended use.

Victory HLR or Easton 5.0?

If you are deciding between two of the most popular lightweight 5mm hunting shafts, we have already compared them in detail. Read our Easton 5.0 vs Victory HLR comparison for a deeper look at GPI, durability, component systems, spine indexing, coatings, and the setups where we prefer each arrow.

Choose the HLR if Victory’s 50-grain stainless SHOK™ component, factory spine alignment, ICE coating, and especially low GPI in the stiffest spines fit your build. Consider the Easton 5.0 Match Grade if you prefer Easton’s HIT-and-collar component system and USA-made Acu-Carbon platform.

Learn More About Choosing Your Arrows

The right arrow is determined by more than shaft diameter or GPI. Draw weight, draw length, arrow length, spine, component weight, and intended application all need to work together.
