The Easton Axis 4mm Match Grade is built for bowhunters who want a true micro-diameter hunting arrow with a strong balance of speed, wind resistance, penetration, and component flexibility. Built with Easton’s 100% Acu-Carbon construction and a Match Grade ±.001" straightness specification, the Axis 4mm Long Range gives you a smaller shaft profile without forcing you into proprietary broadheads or field points.

The 4mm platform is especially useful for hunters who shoot farther, hunt in windy conditions, or simply want to reduce the amount of shaft exposed to crosswind and target friction. Easton also includes its 55-grain Match Grade aluminum half-out, giving the arrow a standard 8-32 connection for broadheads and field points while reinforcing the front of the shaft.

Key Features

4MM Micro-Diameter Acu-Carbon Construction

The Axis 4mm uses a true micro-diameter 100% carbon shaft. The smaller outside diameter reduces the surface area exposed to crosswinds and reduces shaft friction during penetration, making it particularly useful for longer-range hunting applications.

Match Grade ±.001" Straightness

The Match Grade version carries a ±.001" straightness specification for archers who want Easton’s tighter straightness grade for hunting, 3D, and longer-range shooting.

Designed for Long-Range Hunting Performance

Easton designed the Axis 4mm Long Range with a carbon layup intended to keep shaft weight manageable while maintaining the durability required from a hunting arrow. That allows the arrow to retain useful speed while taking advantage of the reduced wind exposure of the 4mm diameter.

55-Grain Match Grade Aluminum Half-Out Included

The current Axis 4mm Match Grade includes Easton’s 55-grain Match Grade aluminum half-out. The component extends over the front of the shaft for additional impact protection and provides a standard 8-32 threaded connection for conventional broadheads and field points.

Standard 8-32 Broadhead Compatibility

One of the advantages of the Axis 4mm component system is that you can still use standard-thread 8-32 broadheads and field points. You get the benefits of a 4mm shaft without being locked into a specialty broadhead system.

4MM Microlite Nocks

Easton installs 4mm Microlite nocks at the factory, providing a lightweight nock system designed specifically around the micro-diameter shaft.

Multiple Front-End Weight Options

The 55-grain Match Grade half-out included with the arrow is only one option. Extreme Outfitters also carries several Easton 4mm components that allow you to change finished-arrow weight and front-of-center balance.

Increasing half-out or point weight will increase finished arrow weight, raise FOC, and dynamically weaken the shaft. Spine selection should always be considered before making a major change in front-end weight.

Who It's Built For

The Easton Axis 4mm Match Grade is a strong option for bowhunters who want a smaller-diameter hunting shaft and place a high priority on longer-range arrow flight, reduced wind drift, and penetration efficiency.

It makes particular sense for western hunters, 3D shooters, or anyone who may shoot in wind or at extended distance. The 4mm diameter presents less surface area to the wind than a larger shaft, which becomes increasingly valuable as distance increases.

It can also work extremely well for whitetail and general big-game hunting, especially for shooters who prefer a smaller-diameter shaft but still want the flexibility of standard 8-32 broadheads and multiple half-out weight options.

The biggest consideration with any 4mm build is the component system. Because more of the front-end structure sits outside the carbon shaft, we pay close attention to half-out selection, finished-arrow weight, broadhead weight, and spine when putting these arrows together.

Our Take on the Easton Axis 4mm Match Grade

The biggest reason to choose the Axis 4mm over the 5mm Axis is not simply because smaller is automatically better. It is because the 4mm shaft gives you less surface area for the wind to work against, which becomes more valuable as shooting distance increases.

That makes the Axis 4mm especially attractive for western hunting or any setup where longer shots and wind are realistic considerations. You still get enough shaft weight to build a legitimate hunting arrow, but the smaller diameter helps the arrow remain more efficient downrange.

The component system is where we spend the most time with these arrows. The included 55-grain Match Grade half-out is a good general-purpose starting point, but the ability to move to a 75- or 100-grain Match Grade half-out gives us more flexibility when building around a specific finished weight or FOC goal.

That does not mean heavier is automatically better. Once you start increasing half-out and broadhead weight, finished arrow weight climbs and dynamic spine gets weaker. We want the component package to match the shooter rather than simply chasing the highest FOC number possible.

Compared with the 5mm Axis, we generally look at the 4mm when wind performance and long-range efficiency are higher priorities. We look at the 5mm Axis when we want a slightly simpler, more traditional hunting-arrow component system and do not necessarily need the smallest possible shaft diameter.

Extreme Outfitters sells these shafts individually, and free cut and glue is available with your arrow purchase. If you are unsure about spine, half-out weight, finished arrow length, or broadhead weight, our bow techs can help you put together the complete build around your setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Easton Axis 4mm and Axis 5mm?

The biggest difference is shaft diameter. The Axis 4mm has a smaller outside diameter, which reduces the amount of shaft exposed to crosswind and can be particularly beneficial at longer distances. The 5mm Axis uses a larger shaft and a HIT-style internal component system, while the 4mm Axis Match Grade uses a half-out system to provide standard 8-32 broadhead compatibility.

What half-out comes with the Easton Axis 4mm Match Grade?

The current Easton Axis 4mm Match Grade includes a 55-grain Match Grade aluminum half-out.

Can I use heavier half-outs with the Axis 4mm?

Yes. Extreme Outfitters carries the 75-grain Easton Match Grade Half-Out and 100-grain Easton Match Grade Half-Out for shooters who want additional front-end weight.

Increasing component weight affects finished arrow weight, FOC, and dynamic spine, so make sure the heavier component still works with your specific arrow length and bow setup.

Does the Axis 4mm use standard broadheads?

Yes. The included half-out uses standard 8-32 threads, allowing you to use conventional 8-32 broadheads and field points.

What is the straightness tolerance?

The Easton Axis 4mm Match Grade carries a ±.001" straightness specification.

What spine sizes does Extreme Outfitters carry?

Extreme Outfitters currently offers the Axis 4mm Match Grade in 250, 300, 340, and 400 spine.

Is the Axis 4mm only for long-range hunting?

No. It works well for a wide range of hunting applications. The micro-diameter design becomes increasingly beneficial as distance and wind increase, but the same small-diameter construction and component flexibility can also work very well for whitetail and general big-game hunting.

Is a 4mm arrow better than a 5mm arrow?

Not automatically. A 4mm shaft exposes less surface area to wind and can offer advantages at longer range, but it also uses a different front-end component system. A 5mm shaft may be the simpler choice for some hunting builds. The better option depends on your shooting distance, finished-arrow goals, component preferences, and hunting application.

Should I use the included 55-grain half-out or a heavier one?

The included 55-grain Match Grade half-out is a good starting point for most builds. Moving to a 75- or 100-grain component can increase finished weight and FOC, but it also dynamically weakens the arrow. We recommend selecting component weight around the complete build rather than choosing the heaviest option by default.

Can Extreme Outfitters cut and build these arrows?

Yes. Free cut and glue is available with your arrow purchase. Our bow techs can also help you select spine, half-out weight, finished arrow length, and broadhead weight if you need help planning the complete build.

Want the Convenience of a Pre-Fletched Arrow?

If you want the Axis 4mm Match Grade platform without choosing and installing your own vanes, the Easton Axis 4mm Match Grade Fletched Arrow gives you the same micro-diameter Match Grade platform in a pre-fletched configuration.

Choose the bare shaft if you want complete control over your vane model, color, orientation, and fletching configuration. Choose the fletched version if you want to start with the vanes already installed and focus on arrow length, spine, and front-end component selection.

Learn More About Building Your Arrows

Choosing a shaft diameter is only one part of building the right hunting arrow. Spine, component weight, finished arrow mass, FOC, and intended shooting distance all need to work together.
