It is especially well suited for western hunting, Total Archery Challenge, long-range 3D, and any application where speed, trajectory, and wind exposure become increasingly important.
The relatively low GPI also makes the VLR useful for shorter draw lengths or lower draw weights. Those shooters have less energy available, so starting with an overly heavy shaft can quickly produce a finished arrow that is slower than necessary.
Longer-draw and higher-poundage shooters can take advantage of the same low-GPI design in a different way: maintain high arrow speed while using the component system to add front-end weight where the individual build calls for it.

Our Take on the Victory VLR Elite
The VLR fills a really useful spot in Victory’s lineup because it gives us a lightweight 4mm shaft without feeling like Victory simply removed carbon to chase the lowest possible GPI.
When we first started handling these in the shop, one of the things that stood out was the wall construction. For a relatively lightweight micro-diameter arrow, the shaft feels stout, the carbon layering looks clean and consistent, and it does not immediately give us the brittle feeling we sometimes see from aggressively lightweight 4mm shafts.
That is important because low GPI by itself is not enough. We want the weight savings to give us options when building the arrow, not create a shaft that we do not trust in a hunting application.
The VLR gives us that flexibility. A 400 spine at 7.7 GPI or a 350 at 8.2 GPI leaves more room to control the finished arrow through the component system. We can keep the build relatively light for TAC, 3D, or longer-range hunting, or add component weight when the shooter wants more finished mass.
We also like the included 50-grain Taper Lock component as a starting point. It gives us meaningful front-end weight and a sleeved front-end design without immediately turning this into an overly heavy micro-diameter setup.
Compared with the VAP TKO, we look at the VLR when lower GPI, trajectory, and speed are higher priorities. The VAP TKO carries a little more shaft weight and is the direction we lean when someone wants a more substantial 4mm hunting platform.
The VLR is also similar in concept to the Victory HLR. The HLR gives us a lightweight 5mm platform, while the VLR brings that same general idea into Victory’s smaller .166" micro-diameter category.
For western hunters, TAC shooters, 3D archers, or anyone who wants a lightweight 4mm arrow without going to an extremely fragile-feeling shaft, the VLR is one of the more interesting options we have worked with.
